Low calorie smoothies recipes: high in fibre & antioxidant!!
Watermelon and melon Smoothie - 1 cup of watermelon + 1 cup melon + cup ice water/milk = around 40 calories
Banana and milk smoothie - 1 banana + ½ cup milk + ½ cup ice water/milk = around 130 calories.
Strawberry smoothie - cup strawberries + ½ cup milk + ½ cup ice water = around 60 calories
Banana Strawberry Smoothie - 1/2 cup strawberries + 1/2 cup banana + 1/2 cup yogurt 0% (or low fat) + ½ cup ice water = around 60 calories.
Protein shake ( great after a workout )
1 banana+ 1/2 cup strawberries+ 1/4 cup fresh orange juice+1 teaspoon protein powder +1/2 cup ice + 1/2 low fat yogurt
Vanilla & cherry smoothie:
1/4 cup low fat milk milk +1/2 cup cherries frozen/fresh+1/2 cup fresh/frozen raspberries+ 1/2 cup low fat vanilla yogurt +A drop of vanilla extract+ 1/2 cup frozen ice
Mint Chocolate Smoothie: 1/2 tablespoon cocoa powder+ 1/2 cup fresh/frozen strawberries+ Handful of mint leaves+1/2 cup low fat milk +1/2 cup ice
Green Smoothie: 1 green apple+ 1 slice melon+ a handful of mint leaves+ 1 cup ice+ 3/4 cup water
A good nutritious smoothie can replace breakfast or even dinner in terms of calories and nutritional value - low fat Yogurt + 1 tbsp rose water, half a mango + 1 fresh pineapple slice + Slice half a banana + ½ cup ice water + 6-7 finely chopped pistachios = around 300 calories !
Smoothies are a great alternative to processed juices sold out there that contain sugars in a great (and very harmful) amount.
Of course, don't forget fruit contains sugars as well however when you make it yourself, at home, you are in control of what is in your juice and how much goes in. Besides, pre made bought juices contain other kinds of sweeteners you don't always know are in there to begin with...
